A lifelong resident of Gloversville, Sharon P. Poling has deep roots in the community and a lifelong connection to The Glove Theatre. Some of her earliest memories of the Glove are of attending movies there as a child, including the free summer movie programs that made the theatre a special place for generations of local families.

Sharon spent more than 30 years in education and workforce development, retiring from Fulton-Montgomery Community College in 2016 and receiving the honorary title of Professor Emeritus. During her career at FMCC, she served multiple terms as president of the Fulmont Association of College Educators (FACE), representing faculty and professional staff, and received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service.

Her commitment to education and community service has continued in retirement. Sharon serves on the Gloversville Enlarged School District Board of Education as vice president and is a member of the Gloversville Educational Foundation. She has been particularly involved in efforts that celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of Gloversville students, educators, alumni, and community members.

Sharon’s connection to The Glove is also personal. Her daughter performed on its stage, giving Sharon another perspective on the importance of providing young people with opportunities to experience the performing arts.

As the current Vice President of The Glove Theatre Board of Directors, Sharon is committed to preserving the historic theatre while helping ensure that it has a vibrant future. She is especially passionate about making the arts accessible to children and families and about The Glove’s role in the continued revitalization of downtown Gloversville.

For Sharon, restoring The Glove is about more than restoring a building. It is about preserving an important part of Gloversville’s history while creating a place where new generations can make memories of their own.
